Nova Bus announces increase in production

Quebec bus manufacturer Nova Bus announced today that it will increase its production capacity by September. This means the creation in the short term of more than 200 new jobs at its plants in Saint-Eustache and Saint-François-du-Lac.

Today’s announcement is part of our commitment to adapt our facilities to fluctuations in market demand and to ensure the necessary flexibility to remain the industry leader in Quebec. “This increase in the production capacity of our plants will meet the needs and requirements of our customers and contribute to the development of new markets in Canada and the United States,” said Emmanuelle Toussaint, Vice President, Public Affairs and Legal, Nova Bus and Prevost.

At its Saint-François-du-Lac plant, Nova Bus manufactures the bus chassis and installs the floors. For assembly and finishing, the structures are then transported to the Nova Bus plants in Saint-Eustache or Plattsburgh, USA. The expansion in question is expected to create more than 200 new jobs by the end of the project, mostly for assemblers and welders. The Saint-François-du-Lac plant will hire 85 new employees to increase its chassis production from five to seven a day. As for Saint-Eustache, it will receive 125, which will increase its production by two to three buses per day.

Nova Bus will deploy a process of attracting, selecting and recruiting staff for its two facilities and all new employees will complete a comprehensive training plan.  “The increase in production capacity announced by Nova Bus is great news. Whether it is by creating jobs, developing new markets or by demonstrating its ability to innovate, Nova Bus demonstrates that a well-established manufacturing company in Quebec can, with determination and passion, promote and contribute to Québec’s economic growth . I am proud that our government supports and encourages Quebec’s manufacturing industry and creates an environment conducive to job creation, especially in the regions, “said Saul Polo, Member of Parliament for Laval-des-Rapides and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economy, Science and Innovation.

We owe a lot to the advanced technology, and Nova Bus has always been able to stay on the cutting edge of it, to design and produce vehicles whose quality is universally recognized and sought after. But the company has also always relied on human capital to rise and stay at the top. It proves this once again by hiring 125 new employees at its Saint-Eustache facility. I am very pleased, as I welcome the positive impact of this expansion on the local economy, concluded Pierre Charron, Mayor of Saint-Eustache.
